There are different degrees of oceanview, of course. Some ocean view properties are a matter of a few feet away from the ocean's edge; others are a mile or more. When it comes to describing real property, you will see, in real estate ads, descriptions such as:

• WHITEWATER VIEWS: You're close enough or high enough to see the surf breaking over the rocks and/or smashing into the bluff. It's dramatic!
• BLUEWATER VIEWS: You're back far enough from the coastline so that, while you can still see the ocean, your view is less dramatic, more-serene. You don't see any whitewater action, therefore you've got a bluewater view... or sometimes it's gray... maybe a little muddy?
• FILTERED OCEAN VIEW: You can see the ocean - whitewater or bluewater - but you're looking through trees to see it. Perhaps not as dramatic, but the view can be charming.
• A PEEK OF THE OCEAN: This usually means you're getting just what the term implies... a tiny, little peek.
